What types of businesses and leaders should consider using FirstOS?

Any leader in an organization that is not quite big enough (yet) for a more comprehensive and costly operating system implementation, should consider FirstOS.  Many of the tools and disciplines that medium and large companies use to maintain focus and achieve success are applicable to early stage businesses - but not all of them.  If you are interested in growing your business intentionally, with less drama, blindsides, and fire-fighting, FirstOS is designed for you.  It is industry agnostic, though some of the partner organizations that offer FirstOS have specific sector focus interpretations.

When is a good time to start?

Even if you are just in the ideation phase, you will find value in the support FirstOS offers in organizing your efforts and tracking your progress.  
The greatest value comes as you prepare for milestones:
  • Are you hiring non-founders?
  • Are you looking for funding?
  • Are you trying to gain the confidence of your first customers?
  • Are you recognizing that your are stuck or hit a ceiling?
  • Are you facing drama or miscommunication issues?

How much time will this take? I'm really busy!

FirstOS was created by entrepreneurs to help other entrepreneurs.  We have purposefully structured the workshops, materials, and community to support flexibility for founders.
That said, yo udo need to commit some time and attention to get value from the FirstOS.  A few points to consider:
  • The Workshops are 4 hours long.  You should plan to give your undivided attention to the workshop when you attend.  If you are really struggling with this, you probably will struggle finding any way to grow your business. Every workshop participant so far has said that the time paid for itself many times over almost immediately in the clarity and focus it gave everything they were doing.
  • Plan to spend at least an hour preparing for a Workshop. There are videos and reading assignments for every course, but the prep materials are limited to what can be achieved in 60 minutes.  There are also Further Study materials offered that go well beyond that limit, but your total prep time shouldn't be more than a hour.
  • All the self-study modules are designed to take no more than an hour to 1) learn a few things 2) use a tools 3) plan to implement it in your business.  Learning to set aside and protect an hour is a great discipline for all leaders and builders.

How much time do I get with a Mentor or Coach?

We call our coaches, who run the Workshops and staff the Office Hours, Mentors. 

You have access to Mentors during the Workshops and you can take each Workshop as many times as you like.  We intend that FirstOS founders will only advance some of their tools and practices each time they take the Workshop so we think you should plan to come back often, especially as you prepare for milestones in the development of your endeavor.

We also provide multiple Office Hour sessions each week where any participant can come as often as they want to ask any question.  We do limit the number of participants in each Office Hours session.
